HSBC has a long history of encouraging our employees to volunteer their time and expertise to a range of different causes. We're supporting environmental, educational and social causes that are important to local communities in Kraków and Małopolska region.

In 2018, our employees contributed more than 5,300 volunteering hours to charities and public institutions. They planted more than 2,000 plants along busy streets in Kraków, cleaned-up rivers and national parks as well as run hundreds of kilometres at charity runs and donated countless number of items to children. At our financial awareness workshops we’ve been regularly helping teenagers to acquire the skills they need to prosper in a modern economy and to manage their money effectively.

As well as benefitting the communities we serve, volunteering at HSBC brings a great personal rewards to employees – enabling people to build connections, develop new skills and gain a fresh perspective. Our staff can also benefit from up to two days of additional leave for volunteering at HSBC-led initiatives.


At HSBC, we’re also committed to making our operations more efficient and managing our own environmental footprint. We’ve announced an ambitious sustainability programme called Reduce, focused on energy, waste, travel and paper reduction. The Reduce Programme sets a headline target of reducing our annual carbon dioxide footprint per employee by about one third, from 3.5 to 2.0 tonnes by 2020.

Our office at Kapelanka Street in Kraków is a modern and eco-friendly space equipped with newest technologies supporting our sustainable efforts. It was the first office in Kraków to be certified on LEED Gold level, one of the highest marks a green building can be officially recognized with.

Some floors of the Kapelanka office have been set up as OpenWork space. This global framework helps HSBC make a better use of our space and create a better place to work: more effective, more efficient and designed around employees – they choose where and how they work in order to excel in their role. We’ve created a flexible working environment to meet the needs of our employees, today and in the future.
